Brown Places Third at Becker Show

PAXTON, MASSACHUSETTS.— Brown's Equestrian team posted a strong showing this past weekend, finishing third over Becker and Johnson & Wales at the Becker Show. The Bears totaled 30 points, behind URI and Roger Williams.

In the open fences, point rider Lindsay Wong (Sarasota, Fla.) placed third, with Allison Dungey (North Kingstown, R.I.) following in fifth. With this tournament, Wong held onto her lead in the race for the Cacchione Cup, with 21 cumulative points. Sam Epright of URI trails close behind with 20 points. 

Point rider Hallee Foster (Menlo Park, Calif.) pinned second in the 6A intermediate fences, pointing up to open fences and qualifying for Regionals. In 6B, Amanda Picciotto (New York, N.Y.) pinned first after a great ride, leaving Brown tied with URI for second place with nine points each. 

In the 4A novice fences, point rider Ellie Sharpe (Saunderstown, R.I.) faced a tough draw, but had a strong showing, pinning third. Her performance allowed her to point up to intermediate fences and qualify for Regionals. Hailey Roumimper (Scotts Valley, Calfi.), in 4B, came in first, pointing up to intermediate as well.

In the 7A open flat, Picciotto came in second and Kelsey Macpherson followed in third. In 7B, Wong came in second. Brown earned five points in the open flat, landing the Bears in third place with 14 points. 

Dungey pinned fifth in the 5A intermediate flat, followed by Sophia Cohen in sixth in 5B. Sharpe finished third in the 5C. Brown stood in third place at the end of the round with 18 points, trailing Roger Williams's 26 and URI's 25. 

In novice flat, Alisa Berg placed third in 3A, and Charlotte McGoldrick  (Virginia Water, England) placed fourth in 3D. Point rider Foster came in third in 3C, pointing up to intermediate flat and increasing Brown's total to 22 points.

Brown improved upon its last performance in the walk trot canter, with Hannah Eckland and Sarah Gonzales placing first and third, respectively, in the advanced level. Eckland pointed up to novice with her performance. Freshman point rider Adele Ruppert placed third in the beginner level, maintaining Brown's third place standing with 26 points, behind URI and Roger Williams.

The Bears will compete again next weekend on Saturday, October 27 at the URI Show.
