PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head coach Michaela Scanlon and the Brown Equestrian team had an impressive performance at the 2012 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Nationals, out-scoring 15 other teams to finish third overall in the country with 17 points. St. Lawrence won the show with 31 points, while Skidmore finished second with 24.
Brown stood in sixth place for much of the tournament but a blue ribbion performance in the final event pushed the Bears to third overall, ahead of powerhouse programs Mt. Holyoke, Stanford and Kentucky.
The Bears were represented in eight different events at the championship. Rookie Laura Kirk (Needham, Mass.) will compete in the walk-trot, while sophomore Hannah Denton-Estlund (Providence, R.I.) takes part in the walk-trot-canter. Brown finished ahead of Mount Holyoke, Alfred, Penn State, Centernary, Goucher, St. Andrews, Virginia Intermont, Savannah, Berry, Miami (Ohio), Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State, Findlay, Wisconsin-Madison, Purdue, West Texas A&M, Stanford, Colorado, Oregon State and Nebraska.
