Hebron, Conn. – In the Region Show at Windcrest Farm on Saturday, Brown rode to a first-place tie with Johnson & Wales, securing 36 points towards the season standings. The Bears are now 12 points ahead of second-place Rhode Island in the yearly, regional standings.
The day started with the open fences, which saw Allison Dungey pin second. Despite a strong ride from point rider Jacqueline Lubrano, she took fourth. In the intermediate fences, freshman Amanda Picciotto took second while point rider Hallee Foster won the class.
In the novice fences, point rider Hailey Roumimper won the class to put Brown up by five points early in the show.
Up next was the open flat. Lubrano, the point rider, won her class to help push Brown to a 21-14 lead over second-place Johnson & Wales.
In the intermediate flat, both Anna Baker and point rider Cara Rosenbaum pinned second in their class, while Elizabeth Mahoney took third. JWU was able to make up ground in the event, closing to within five of the Bears.
The novice flat saw two brown riders pin fourth as both Becker College and JWU continued to push toward their Bears' lead.
In the walk trot canter Sarah Gonzalez pinned first, Meghan Hassan placed third and despite a very nice ride, point rider Hannah Estlund took fourth.
Brown got second place pins from Morgan Johnson and point rider Vivian Hsiao, but JWU was able to close the gap with top finishes to earn a first-place tie with the Bears.
Next Saturday, Brown equestrian is back in action at Mystic Valley Hunt in a show hosted by URI.
