Equestrian Finishes Eighth on Cold Day in Mystic

Mystic, Conn. – The Brown equestrian team placed eighth at Mystic Valley Hunt Club on a cold Sunday but still maintain a 39 point-lead in the regional standings over second-place Rhode Island.  URI finished sixth overall. 

Despite the low team finish, several Bear riders placed. In the open fences, point rider Elise Fishelson and Dakota Gruener finished fourth while Allegra Aron and Lindsay Wong came in third.

In the novice fences Anna Baker came in second.

Open flat point rider Fishelson took fourth, while Aron finished second. Wong came in first in the event.

In the intermediate flat, point rider Katy Eng claimed the top spot while teammate Carolyn Baxter also ended up on the podium, taking third.

In walk trot canter, point rider Karolina Woroniecka pinned third after a break and wrong lead at the end of a great ride.

As a team, Brown finished the day wit 22 points while its chief rival URI only had 26.  UMass-Dartmouth had an excellent show with 41 points but are still 54 points behind the Bears in the overall standings.

In Cacchione Cup, Kayla Prefontaine of URI has taken the lead with 69 points on the strength of two first-place finishes at Sunday's event. Fishelson is in second place with 64 points.
