Brown wrapped up the 2010 regular season in style over the weekend, taking a one-point win at Wesleyan to clinch first place in the Region, giving the Bears the opportunity to send their team to the Zone Championships on April 10. Senior Liz Giliberti also had a notable individual day, placing first and fifth to take her second consecutive Cacchione Cup win and a spot at Nationals.
The day began with the Open Fences, where Elise Fishelson picked up a second in her class after a nice ride, while Giliberti placed fifth overall. Emma Bogdonoff and Lindsay Wong also rode well, as they each took second in their respective classes. In the Novice Flat, Brown’s rides were highlighted by freshman Ellie Sharpe, who pinned second in her class.
Bogdonoff continued to ride well in the Open Flat, winning her class to get some momentum going for the Bears. In the next two classes Brown continued to rack up the high finishes, as Giliberti added another first, and both Aron and senior Josie Nash placed second in their classes. Rebecca McGoldrick led the way for Bruno in the Intermediate Flat, taking a second to push Brown’s total to 18 points on the day, just four behind the leaders.
Though Brown was already assured of winning the Regional title after the Novice Flat division, the Bears still had a chance to end the season with a win by closing out the last classes with strong performances. In Advanced Walk Trot Canter, freshman point rider Annie Bonnacorso got Bruno started in that direction with a second, pulling the Bears to within three. Fellow rookie Karolina Woroniecka then finished the show for Brown with a first in Walk Trot, giving the Bears a one-point win with 32 points on the day, just ahead of UConn.
Brown will be back in action on March 27, when the team travels to Mystic Valley to compete in the Regional Championships.
