Bears Ride to First at Connecticut College

The Brown equestrian team rode to another first place finish over the weekend, tying host Connecticut College for the top position with 37 points. With the victory, the Bears also maintain their position atop the season standings with 114, and have a healthy advantage with two shows left in the fall.
Bruno kicked things off with the Open Flat class, which quickly proved to be a strong point, as senior point rider Liz Giliberti pinned first in her class, earning seven points. Elise Fishelson also had a nice ride, though not for points, taking second in the initial class. In Intermediate Flat, Rachel Griffith, another senior, kept the Bears rolling with a blue ribbon of her own, pointing up to Open Flat in the process. In the second class of the Intermediate, Emily Bourdeau took another first, blocking potential point riders from other squads in the process. In the final Flat division, senior Jenny Grover took first in Novice, though not as the point rider. Sophomore Rebecca McGoldrick pinned third though, earning four points for Brown.
In the Open Fences, Fishelson took another first, though Giliberti was again the point rider. In the Intermediate division Griffith continued her big day, pinning first again and pointing up to Open Fences. With Griffith's first, the Bears held a narrow one-point advantage over Conn College heading into the final few events.
Though the Brown run of firsts ended with Novice Fences, when McGoldrick took her second of the day, the Bears continued to place well through the final divisions, holding on to tie with Connecticut College at 37 apiece.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, November 14, when they travel to compete against UConn.
