Brown Athletics Announces 2012 Award Winners at Fourth Annual Senior Banquet


The Fourth Annual Brown Athletics Senior Celebration and Awards Banquet was held at Andrews Dining Hall on Friday, May 18, 2012. Over 170 student-athletes, representing Brown’s 37 intercollegiate sports, along with coaches and distinguished guests, were in attendance at the banquet to celebrate an exceptional year of success on the playing field, in the classroom and in the community.

Marcal, Fornaca & Franco Earn Baseball All-Ivy Honors
The Ivy League announced its all-conference baseball teams on Friday afternoon and three Brown position players have been honored. Sophomore J.J. Franco (New York, N.Y.) as well as rookies Nick Fornaca (San Diego, Calif.) and Will Marcal (Lexington, Mass.) all garnered All-Ivy recognition. Franco and Fornaca were named to the second team while Marcal earned honorable mention accolades.

Stephanie Thompson Named Ivy League Co-Player of the Year; Kate Strobel & Avery Silverstein earn All-Ivy honors
Providence, RI- Junior Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Year and earned first team All-Ivy honors after a vote by the league's coaches. Also, senior Kate Strobel (Denver, CO) received first team All-Ivy honors, and junior Avery Silverstein (Woodbridge, CT) earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy accolades.

Women's Soccer Recognizes Eight Student-Athletes with Team Awards
The Brown women's soccer team held its annual season-ending banquet, and eight different individuals were honored with team awards. Senior Allison Kagawa (Mililani, HI) earned the Ridgely MVP Award, while classmate and Captain Sarah Hebert-Seropian (Vaudreuil-Dorion, QUE) was awarded the Sarah Nicholson Memorial Award. Senior Joanna Price (San Juan Capistrano) won the Margeson Team Spirit Award, while senior Marybeth Lesbirel (Holmdel, NJ), junior Diana Ohrt (Simi Valley, CA), and sophomores Alison Mullin (Lafayette, CO) and Kiersten Berg (Salt Lake City, UT) were recognized with the Dobson-Kay Coaches' Award. A new award was also handed out for the first time this year, the Denis Chartier Memorial Award, which was awarded to junior Eliza Marshall (North Andover, MA).
