PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Men’s cross country senior runner Matt Mahoney and women’s soccer freshman forward Star White have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 18-24, Brown announced on Monday.

Senior runner Matt Mahoney finished in eighth place out of 157 runners to pace men’s cross country at the Boston College Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown meet on Friday at Franklin Park. A native of Swampscott, Mass., Mahoney traversed the eight kilometer course in a time of 24:28. As a team, the Bears placed fourth out of 18 teams with 117 total points, trailing only No. 3 Syracuse, No. 27 Illinois, and No. 21 Indiana.
Star White, Women’s Soccer, Freshman, Norfolk, Va.
Freshman forward Star White recorded three points on a goal and an assist, including the game-winning goal in overtime vs. Dartmouth, to help lead Brown to a 2-0 week. In the 92nd minute against the Big Green on Sunday, the Norfolk, Va., native netted her second game winner of the year to lift Brown to a 1-0 win in its Ivy League opener. She notched an assist in a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart on Wednesday. White has tallied a point in each of her last six games.
