Staudenmayer, Mehta Earn Brown Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Wrestling senior 157-pounder Justin Staudenmayer and women’s basketball junior guard Shayna Mehta have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 13-19, Brown announced on Monday.

Senior Justin Staudenmayer won the 157-pound weight class at the Navy Classic on Saturday at the Wesley Brown Field House. On his way to the 157-pound championship, the Plymouth Meeting, Pa., native defeated opponents from Oregon State, Navy, Kent State, and Old Dominion and won a trio of one-point matches. He beat Navy’s Zachary Davis, 2-1, in the quarterfinals, Kent State’s Casey Sparkman in the semifinals, 3-2, and Old Dominion’s Larry Early in the finals, 3-2.

Junior guard Shayna Mehta scored 23.0 points per game last week, including a career-high 33 points with a program record nine made 3-pointers vs. No. 20 California on Sunday. Against the Golden Bears, the San Francisco native came within one 3-pointer of tying the Ivy League record for made 3-pointers in a single game. She made 9-of-15 shots from 3-point distance and 12-of-22 shots overall vs. Cal. Mehta tallied 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals in a 78-55 win over CCSU on Thursday.
