Viruet, Allen Earn Brown Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Wrestling sophomore 174-pounder Jon Viruet and women’s fencing junior foilist Clarissa Allen have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 14-20, Brown announced on Monday.

Sophomore Jon Viruet placed fourth in the 174-pound weight class to lead Brown at the Navy Classic on Saturday. A native of Springfield, Mass., Viruet earned four wins on the day, narrowly missing a third-place finish after dropping a 6-4 decision to Indiana’s Devin Skatzka in sudden victory in the third-place match. He placed for the second straight weekend after coming in third at 174 at the Bearcat Open on Nov. 13. 

Clarissa Allen, Women’s Fencing, Junior, Newtown, Pa.
Junior foilist Clarissa Allen posted a 20-1 overall record to help lead women’s fencing to a 5-2 record at Northeast Fencing Conference Meet No. 1 on Saturday. A native of Newtown, Pa., she swept all three of her bouts against Boston University, Sacred Heart, Smith, New Hampshire, Wellesley, and Massachusetts and went 2-1 vs. Boston College. Her efforts aided the women’s foil squad in posting a 5-2 team mark and a 45-18 composite record.
