Brown freshman forward Cedric Kuakumensah (Worcester, MA) was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after turning in dominating performances in games against Columbia and Cornell where he registered career highs in points (19) and rebounds (19).
Kuakumensah scored a career-high 19 points in Brown's win over
Columbia, connecting on 8-of-12 field goals, while pulling down
seven rebounds and blocking two shots.
He then grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds against Cornell, the most
by an Ivy League player this year. He added 13 points to
complete the double-double against the Big Red.
Kuakumensah also blocked four shots vs. Cornell and now has 50
blocks for the season, most ever by a Brown freshman, and second
overall in Bears' basketball history. His seven blocked shots vs.
Penn two weeks ago tied the Brown record.
Kuakumensah, who played at St. Andrew's School in Barrington, R.I.,
leads the Ivy League in rebounds with 7.9 per game and in blocked
shots with 2.3 per game.
The Bears are back in action again on Friday, February 22, hosting
Harvard at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The game will be televised
live on MyRITV, starting at 7 pm.
