Brown Athletics Unveils Brown Bears Sports Properties As Its Dedicated Corporate Sponsorship Sales Unit

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Brown University Athletics, in conjunction with Learfield Sports, has developed Brown Bears Sports Properties as its exclusive corporate sponsorship sales unit, as announced today by Director of Athletics Jack Hayes. This dedicated unit is designed to support Brown Athletics’ initiative to enhance the service provided to local and regional businesses and further promote the Brown brand affinity to the corporate community.

Leading Brown Bears Sports Properties is General Manager Augusto “Cookie” Rojas, who most recently served eight years as general sales manager for the Pawtucket Red Sox and taught sports management for nearly five years at Johnson & Wales University. Nelligan Sports Marketing, Brown Athletics’ former marketing partner, was acquired by Learfield Sports in early February. Brown Bears Sports Properties will office on campus, which will allow a close working relationship with the entire Brown Athletics administration. The property manages all aspects of the multimedia rights including venue signage, event sponsorships/marketing, corporate hospitality, radio game broadcasts and coaches’ shows, television and digital sponsorships, including the official athletic website www.brownbears.com.

Brown Athletics Announces Promotions and New Administrative Staff Hires

Providence, Rhode Island - Brown Director of Athletics Jack Hayes has announced a series of staff promotions and new Athletic Department personnel hires. Robert Kenneally was promoted to Executive Associate Director of Athletics, and Jeanne Carhart was promoted to Associate Director of Athletic Communications.  In addition, Meredith Scarlata was recently hired as Associate Director of Athletics for Finance, and Kelly Lee was named Brown Athletics’ Ticket Manager.

A 1990 Brown graduate where he was a four-year member of the men’s ice hockey team, Kenneally, a Warwick, Rhode Island native, has been a member of the Brown Athletics staff since 1991, working in a variety of positions.  He was an Assistant Athletic Director and also served as the head men's and women's golf coach and Director of Golf Operations from 1998 – 2002, and was named the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services in 2002.  As Executive Associate Athletic Director, Kenneally is second in charge and has a myriad of responsibilities within the athletic department. He oversees the daily operations of the department, serves on the admissions board in the recruitment of student-athletes, and is the liaison to the department to Financial Aid. Kenneally is also the sport supervisor for football, baseball, women’s basketball, gymnastics, men’s ice hockey, and men’s soccer, and oversees the Budget and Finance Office, Athletic Communications and Marketing and Promotions. He also is the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, oversees eligibility and is a University Academic Advisor. 

Carhart came to Brown in July of 2000 as an Assistant Sports Information Director. In her new capacity, she handles all media demands and publicity for several of Brown's 37 squads throughout the year, including women's soccer, field hockey, men's ice hockey, skiing, women's lacrosse, and men's and women's tennis. Carhart also works with the Director of Athletics on several projects. She has also been working as the communications director for the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey First and Second Round games at the Dunkin Donuts Center, hosted by Brown, March 30-31, 2013. In 2011, Carhart earned a Brown University Excellence Award for her help in developing a series of interactive magazines for various Brown sports. A native of Manasquan, New Jersey she is a 1999 graduate of Drew University where she earned a B.A. in Psychobiology. Carhart continues to remain involved in high school and youth lacrosse circles, serving as the head girls’ lacrosse coach at Moses Brown School since the spring of 2008, and winning two RI State Championships with her squad.

Scarlata was named Associate Director of Athletics for Finance in October, 2012. She joins the Brown staff after serving as an Assistant Athletic Director for Business at Hartford for the past year. Prior to her position with Hartford, Scarlata worked at the University of Miami, first as an Assistant Director of Business, then as an Associate Director of Business, and most recently as the Senior Business Manager. Prior to entering intercollegiate athletics in 2006, Scarlata spent a year as the Fiscal Officer for the University of Miami Lowe Art Museum. A 2004 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Scarlatta earned a Master of Arts in Education in Sport Management from UConn in 2006. She is currently working towards a Master of Business Administration from Hartford.

Lee was named Ticket Office Manager in October, 2012. She joins the Brown staff after serving as the Business Manager for the University of Mississippi Athletic Association Foundation in Oxford, Mississippi from April, 2010-July, 2011. Prior to her position with the UMAA Foundation, Lee was the Director of Business and Ticket Operations at the College Of Charleston from 2007-2010. Lee has held various other positions in collegiate athletics, including media relations at Georgia Tech and event management with the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. In between her positions at the Chick-fil-A Bowl and the College of Charleston, Lee worked as a high school Athletic Administrator, Coach and Educator at the North Cobb Christian School in Kennesaw, Georgia. Lee is a 1999 graduate of the University of Mississippi and received a Master of Science in Sports Administration from Georgia State in 2002.
