Dylan Molloy ’17, Senior Associate AD Tom Bold Win Words Unlimited Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University former men's lacrosse standout Dylan Molloy '17 and Brown Senior Associate Director of Athletics Tom Bold have earned awards from Words Unlimited, the Rhode Island statewide organization of sportswriters, sportscasters, and sports publicists has announced.

Molloy won the organization's Male Athlete of the Year award while Bold gained Words Unlimited's Frank Lanning Achievement Award for the 2017 calendar year.

A native of Setauket, N.Y., Molloy finished his career as the third all-time leading goal scorer in NCAA history with 196 goals. The 2016 Tewaaraton Award winner as the nation's top player, he tallied 318 points in his career, ranking first at Brown and sixth in the NCAA record book. He was the first overall pick in the 2017 MLL Draft.

The two-time Ivy League Player of the Year and New England Player of the Year also gained CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades. A three-time First Team All-Ivy and All-New England selection, he finished as a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. In 2017, the All-American ranked third in the nation in goals per game (3.14) and eighth in points per game (5.07).

Bold has worked as a member of the Brown University athletics department since 1984 and has held an administrative role in the department since 1988. He has played an instrumental role in hosting successful NCAA events in Rhode Island and has made an impact in numerous capacities on conference and national committees. He has served as the Tournament Director for NCAA Men's Ice Hockey East Regionals at the Dunkin Donuts Center in 2013, 2015, and 2017 with the Bears set to host the event again in 2019.

Bold served as the Tournament Director for the 2016 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals at Brown Stadium, with the Bears hosting again in 2020, and has helped Brown host several NCAA men's soccer and men's lacrosse games on the Brown campus. He acted on the NCAA Wrestling Committee from 2002-05, serving as chair in 2005, and acted on the NCAA Women's Rowing Committee from 2006-09, serving as chair from 2007-09.

Words Unlimited will hold its 72nd annual Sports Awards Banquet on Sunday, March 4 at the Cranston Country Club, 69 Burlingame Rd, Cranston. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
