Winter Academic All-Ivy Selections Announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University had 10 student-athletes garner Winter Academic All-Ivy accolades in an announcement made by the Ivy League on Wednesday.  The five men and five women were key contributors to their respective winter teams with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Seniors Steven Galiardo (Chicago, Ill.) of wrestling and Ali Gunesch (Sandy, Ore.) of skiing earned the honor for the second consecutive season.

Zack Emrich | Indoor Track & Field | Junior | North Kingstown, R.I. | Applied Mathematics-Economics
- Won his second straight 500m indoor title at the Ivy Heptagonal Championship ... Named First Team All-Ivy.

Steven Galiardo | Wrestling | Senior | Chicago, Ill. | Business, Entrepreneurship, and Organizations
- Finished fourth at the EIWA Championship at 157 lbs ... Team Captain ... Named to the EIWA All-Academic Team.

Sam Lafferty | Hockey | Junior | Hollidaysburg, Pa. | Business, Entrepreneurship, and Organizations
- Third Team All-ECAC ... Second Team All-Ivy ... Led team in points (33) and assists (21) and was second in goals (12) ... Assistant Captain.

Jonathon Schlafer | Swimming & Diving | Senior | Uniontown, Ohio | International Relations    
- Qualified for NCAA Zones ... Finished fifth in 1M and ninth in 3M at the Ivy League Championships.

Steven Spieth | Basketball | Senior | Dallas, Texas | Business, Entrepreneurship, and Organizations
- First Team All-Ivy ... Led conference in league scoring with 19.5 points per game ... CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Quincy Beck | Squash | Junior | Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island | Cognitive Neuroscience
- Played in the No. 1 spot for the season ... Team Captain.

Sarah Cronin | Swimming & Diving | Junior | Westfield, N.J. | English and Public Policy 
- Finished sixth in the 200 freestyle at Ivies ... Member of the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle teams that broke school records at the Ivy League Championships.

Ali Gunesch | Skiing | Senior | Sandy, Ore. | Applied Mathematics-Biology
- Second Team All-American with an 11th place finish in both the slalom and giant slalom at USCSA National Championships ... Won the giant slalom at USCSA Eastern Regionals ... Named MacConnell Division Skier of the Year for second straight season.

Caroline Morant | Gymnastics | Senior | Chicago, Ill. | Urban Studies
- NCAA Regional qualifier ... ECAC Co-Gymnast of the Year ... Won floor at ECAC's and was All-ECAC on vault, bars and floor.

Carly Paul | Indoor Track & Field | Junior | Fort Collins, Colo. | International Relations
- Finished second in the high jump and fourth in the pentathlon at the Ivy Heptagonal Championship ... Competed at the USATF New England Indoor Championships ... Named Second Team All-Ivy.
