Brown Athletics Unveils Brown Bears Sports Properties As Its Dedicated Corporate Sponsorship Sales Unit

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Brown University Athletics, in conjunction with Learfield Sports, has developed Brown Bears Sports Properties as its exclusive corporate sponsorship sales unit, as announced today by Director of Athletics Jack Hayes. This dedicated unit is designed to support Brown Athletics’ initiative to enhance the service provided to local and regional businesses and further promote the Brown brand affinity to the corporate community.

Leading Brown Bears Sports Properties is General Manager Augusto “Cookie” Rojas, who most recently served eight years as general sales manager for the Pawtucket Red Sox and taught sports management for nearly five years at Johnson & Wales University. Nelligan Sports Marketing, Brown Athletics’ former marketing partner, was acquired by Learfield Sports in early February. Brown Bears Sports Properties will office on campus, which will allow a close working relationship with the entire Brown Athletics administration. The property manages all aspects of the multimedia rights including venue signage, event sponsorships/marketing, corporate hospitality, radio game broadcasts and coaches’ shows, television and digital sponsorships, including the official athletic website www.brownbears.com.

Three Teams Set to Open Bears Home Schedule; All Games to be Video Streamed Live on the Internet

PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown Athletics is set to open its 2007-2008 home season with three teams opening competition in Providence this weekend. The action begins on Thursday evening with women's soccer and continues until Sunday afternoon with men's soccer wrapping up the weekend with the second day of the 2007 adidas-Brown Soccer Classic, presented by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Sandwiched between the three soccer games is the field hockey home opener on Saturday afternoon. All four of the Bears' games over the weekend will be video streamed on the internet through a new partnership with B2 Networks.

Women's Soccer opens the weekend on Thursday evening when the Bears host #10 Boston College (1-0) at 7:00 p.m. Last season in Chestnut Hill, Brown picked up a 2-1 win over then-13th-ranked Boston College on the strength of goals by Kerrilynn Carney '08 and Kathryn Moos '07 scored in the first 12 minutes of the game.

Tickets for the game are $5 for adults. Children under 12 are admitted free and Brown Students with a valid student ID are also admitted free of charge.

On Friday, men's soccer opens another exciting season as the adidas-Brown Soccer Classic returns to Providence after a one-year hiatus. Boston University and Fordham meet at 5:00 p.m. followed by Brown's season opener against #5 Santa Clara at 7:30 p.m. Sunday's action features the BU-Santa Clara match at 12:00 noon and the Brown-Fordham game at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets for the event will be available on game days at Stevenson Field or in advance by calling (401) 863-2773. Single-day admission, valid for the day's two games, is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Brown Students with a valid student ID are admitted free of charge.

Once again the All-Campus BBQ and Fan Fest returns to Providence in conjunction with the adidas-Brown Soccer Classic. Join the Department of Athletics on Friday, September 7th from 5:00-7:00 for an all-campus barbeque and Fan Fest in front of the Pizzitola Sports Center! Great food and drinks, music, giveaways, vendors, and more! Dining halls are closed for dinner this evening. Brown ID is required and costs $12 for anyone not on a meal plan.

Saturday afternoon, the Brown Field Hockey Team hosts Dartmouth at 12:00 noon on Warner Roof in the 2007 Ivy opener for both teams. Last year in New Hampshire, Andrea Posa '08 and Victoria Sacco '09 each scored in a 2-0 shutout over the Big Green.
