Monique was a mainstay as a defender for the Brown women’slacrosse team from 1988-1991. The Grosvenordale, CT native had atremendous four-year career at Brown, earning post-season honors ineach of her four years on the team.
As a freshman, Monique made an immediate impact on theBears’ defense. She tallied one goal and two assists on theseason, and received Brown’s Rookie of the Year Award.Monique was also honored by the Ivy League, earning honorablemention All-Ivy honors.
As a sophomore, Monique continued the success of her freshmancampaign, thus being recognized as the Bears’ best defender.She was a First Team All-New England selection and also earnedSecond Team All-Ivy Honors.
In her junior year, Monique received national recognition as oneof the top defenders in the country. She was named to the BrineWomen’s Lacrosse All-American Second Team. Again, she earnedFirst Team All-New England honors and was also a unanimousselection for First Team All-Ivy honors.
Monique continued her stellar play, and was named team captainas a senior. The honors came pouring in at the end of the season,and Monique was named a First Team All- American, First Team AllNew England, and First Team All-Ivy. She was selected to play inthe North-South Senior All-Star game, and earned a tryout with theU.S. Women’s National Team. Monique was one of 150women’s lacrosse players to earn an invitation to thetryout.
Monique’s tenure on the Brown lacrosse team coincided withHall of Fame member Suzanne Bailey. Monique and Suzanne were anincredible duo on the field, with Monique often feeding Suzannefrom the back, creating numerous scoring chances for Suzanne.
Monique graduated in 1991, with a BA in International Relations.As a senior, Monique received the esteemed Brown DistinguishedAthlete award for her athletic ability, leadership, andsportsmanship. Upon graduation from Brown, Monique continued hereducation at Harvard University, receiving a Master of Education inAdmission Planning and Social Policy in 1999. Monique currentlyserves as Director of Admission for the Pomfret School in Pomfret,CT. She is the girl’s lacrosse coach, and has also served asthe girl’s basketball and cross country coach at Pomfret.Monique resides in Connecticut with her husband, Bruce, and theirdaughter, Blake.
