Zoltan Szabo was captain of St. Joseph’s High School’s swim team when they won the New Jersey state championship. He was selected a high school All-American.

At Brown, he immediately made an impact on Ed Reed’s Brown team. Zolie was a team swimmer who moved from event to event where needed. Many times he was utilized as the anchor on relays when a strong finish was essential.

The successes of the team in his junior and senior years were in a large degree due to Szabo’z outstanding performance. He was All-Ivy for three years and All-East junior and senior years. He is the only swimmer to be “most valuable” awardee three years in a row – 1982, 1983 and 1984.

A co-captain his senior year, at the time of his graduation he held the following Brown records: 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay, 200 fly, 100 fly, and the 800 freestyle relay.

Zolie received his MBA from NYU and is currently associate director of financial analysis for the Bristol-Myer Squibb Company. He and his wife, Marianne, make their home in Hillsborough, New Jersey. He notes, “Ex-swimmers make good skiers, but lousy golfers.”
