Keith B. Smith came to Brown from Burlington, Ontario. He chose to continue his Brown hockey career after his junior year, turning down 6-figure offers to play professionally. An outstanding defenseman, Keith credits former coach Al Soares with assisting his development. A solid defenseman, Keith really blossomed during his junior year and was probably one of the top men at his position in college hockey. He attained first-team All-America, All-East, All-New England and All-Ivy. Keith Smith continued his outstanding play his senior year and was rated one of the best defensive players in the East. After Brown, Keith played one year with the New York Islanders. Returning to school, Keith obtained a master's degree in economics from York University (Hamilton, Ontario). Keith is with the steelmaking division of Dofasco Inc. in Hamilton, Ontario. He and his wife, Kathryn, and their two sons, Graham (9) and Trevor (6) reside in Hamilton.
