Frank J. Sexton '93 combined with catcher Fred Tenney '94 to form one of the leading college batteries of their generation. A speed ball pitcher who could put a sharp break on the ball, Doc Sexton piled up an impressive number of strikeouts. He played one year with the Boston Nationals and later became a successful college coach, serving five years at Harvard and four at Michigan. Three of his Wolverine nines won Big 10 championships. Sexton had a distinguished coaching career at Brown, where his 1907 team was 16-1-1 and claimed the national championship.
