Leonard A. Romagna '42
Year Inducted: 1971
Leonard A. Romagna ’42 brought Brown its first national sailing title in 1942, and he was the first and only skipper to capture the Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association dinghy championship three years running. In the spring of 1942, in the sixth annual dinghy championship of the IYRA on the Charles River, Romagna scored eight firsts, two seconds, a third, a fourth, and a pair of fifths. His 181 points in these 14 races against the country’s top skippers accounted for three-fifths of Brown’s winning total of 313 points. When the International Yacht Racing Association established a Sailing Hall of Fame last year, Romagna was one of the first 14 men selected.
