In eight years at the helm of the Brown women’s swim program, Dave Roach took the Bears into the national spotlight. The last-place team in the Ivy League prior to his arrival, Roach guided Brown to conference championships in 1983, 1984 and 1985. During his tenure in Providence, Roach’s teams amassed a record of 76-6-1. In 1985 and 1986, Brown won the 31-team Eastern Championship under his direction. Without the aid of athletic scholarships, Roach led the Bears to a 14th-place finish in the NCAA championship. An outstanding teacher and technician, he coached the U.S. National Team at the World University Games in Kobe, Japan. Roach is a member of the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame and the co-author of the book, Water Polo Fundamentals. Roach currently coaches the Lady Vols at the University of Tennessee where he was named SEC Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1988. He and his wife Anne live in West Knoxville with their daughters, Elizabeth and Michelle.
