A native of New Canaan, Connecticut, Valerie was an All-American swimmer and a four-year All-Ivy selection at Brown. She also received All-East honors and qualified for Nationals three years.
A competitive swimmer since the age of 10, Valerie ended her four-year college career with a sparkling 39-1-1 team record. A backstroke specialist, she was Ivy Champion her freshman season in the 50 and 100 meter backstroke.
In 1985, as a tri-captain, she received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and the Outstanding Athlete Award. Her 1985 Bear’s team was the first Brown team to win the Eastern Championship.
After Brown, Valerie was a part of the U.S. Masters Swimming program from 1988-92 and was a National medal winner in ’90 and ’91. She worked for five years at General Electric in the finance and marketing department. In ’90, she entered the Master’s program at Northwestern University’s JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management. She graduated in 1992 with degrees in marketing, international business, and organizational behavior.
Valerie worked for Boise Cascade Office Products after graduate school in Texas, Connecticut, and Illinois. Valerie is no longer competitively swimming, however, she enjoys cycling, skiing, and tennis. She currently resides in Farmington, Connecticut.
