Bradford F. Oxnard '22
Year Inducted: 1971
Bradford F. Oxnard '22 won the Rhode Island State Amateur Gold Championship in 1928 at Wannamoisett Country Club and repeated in 1932. He was runner-up in this tournament three times - 1931, 1949, and 1957. Oxnard didn't take up gold until 1924 when he was working with the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad and finishing his undergraduate work at Brown on a part-time basis. Operating on a very tight schedule, Oxnard was forced to do his golfing in the evenings, sometimes on local courses but more often than not in Union Station, where his "mashie shots" were particularly hard on the floor. In recent years, Oxnard has been one of the most able senior golfers in the nation. He is captain of the Rhode Island State golf team that participates annually in the tri-state matches, which makes Oxnard the dean of Rhode Island amateur golf.
