Dave Olson was one of the finest scum-halfs to play rugby and a team leader on some of Brown’s best-ever rugby teams in the mid 1960’s. In Olson’s years of play at Brown, the rugby club won the Eastern Rugby Union Championships and the Penn State University Championship. When Olson scored two tries for Brown against UCLA, Brown became the first eastern team ever to defeat the UCLA Bruins on the rugby pitch. The 1966 Brown captain, Olson was chosen to tour with a U.S. All-Star team in England in 1966. In 1968 he was named to the College All-America rugby team. “Dave was the first in a long line of outstanding Brown scrum-halfs,” said Dave Zucconi. “He is the scrum-half against whom all others after him are judged.” A lawyer, Dave lives in Piedmont, California with his wife Gail and their children Sarah, Eric and Drew.
