Patrick J. Migliore ’68, All-American center back from Rockaway Beach, NY, is rated by some as Brown’s finest modern-day soccer player. He was the heart of the defense during a three-year stretch when Brown was 35-1-2 overall and didn’t lose a game in Ivy competition (29-0-1). This was the Golden Era of Brown soccer as Coach Cliff Stevenson’s teams won three consecutive Ivy championships. A rugged performer with great speed and a competitor’s heart, Migliore was a two-time All-Ivy and a two-time All-New England performer. Coach Stevenson recalls that when Mig went on the field he gave the entire team a certain confidence. As the center back (no. “1” back) in Stevenson’s 5-2-1-2 alignment, Migliore often took two men in the center of the field. His tackling was adroit, a no one ever beat him one-on-one in three varsity seasons. Perhaps Stevenson best summed up his star by saying, “He was a coaches’ dream.” Migliore was recently discharged as a captain in the Air Force.
