In the 32 years that Brown University has been a member of the Ivy League, only Paul Michalko can claim he quarterbacked a Bruin football team to an Ivy League Championship. In 1976, the only season he was the starting signal caller, he led Brown to an 8-1 overall record and a 6-1 Ivy mark. He capped a spectacular senior season be earning first team All-Ivy, All-New England and All-East honors. That year, he completed 89 of 187 passes for 1113 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 207 yards on 85 carries and four touchdowns. His best performance came against Dartmouth when he completed 19 of 29 passes for a school-record 314 yards and four touchdowns, also a school-record. Both marks still stand today. For his efforts he was named the Ivy Player of the Week, the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week, and the Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award Winner by the New England Sports Writers. He also earned ECAC Honor Roll mention for that game and the Yale contest, which also earned him a Chevrolet Offensive Player of the Game Award since it was televised by ABC. His senior year performance made him an honored guest at the Elmira Mid-Winter Sports Banquet, where he grew up. In addition to playing football for four years, he also lettered two years in baseball. Now living in Fairport, NY with his wife Lois and son Joshua, Paul is a senior account representative with Telenet.
