Charles "Chuck" McGrath came to Brown from nearby Massachusetts. While at Brown, he became a starter in football for Coach John Anderson and went on to garner All-Ivy honors. It was on the baseball diamond, however, where Chuck really made a name as one of Brown's best hurlers. In addition to being a tri-captain his senior year, he started 9 games, winning 6 overall. He won 19 games, breaking the record for more career wins. One of his favorite wins was in the 1982 season, beating Cornell 6-5 on a very hot day. Former Coach Dave Stenhouse considers Chuck one of the finest pitchers he ever coached. Chuck's outstanding work earned him All-EIBL honors during his junior and senior years. A 17th-round draft choice of the St. Louis Cardinals, Chuck played eight minor league seasons with their team. Currently Chuck, who is single, is at Dartmouth College serving as an assistant football coach.
