For fifteen years, the Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet has been one of the highlights of the fall season on College Hill. Now, thanks to the generosity of Paul L. Maddock ’33, this event is guaranteed a place on Brown’s fall sports agenda for years to come. Early this summer, Paul endowed the Paul L. Maddock Athletic Hall of Fame Award, a very special honor that will be given at this banquet annually to someone who has gone to the extreme in support of Brown athletics, but not as an athlete.

Understandably, Paul Maddock is the first recipient of this handsome new trophy. His son and business partner, Paul L. Maddock, Jr. ’72, will accept this evening for Paul, who has been ill the last few months. There will be other recipients in the years ahead, but none more deserving, none more congenial, and none who love Brown University more deeply.
