The art of goaltending requires a special blend of skill, concentration, mental discipline and luck. By the time he was a senior, Michael Laycock had mastered all of these and had given Brown hockey fans some moments of magic in front of the net. In 53 games, he compiled an .877 save percentage along with a 4.13 goals against average. By his senior year, he was one of the top goalies in the East and had accumulated numerous honors as a junior. He was also named first team All-America, All-East, All-Ivy and All-ECAC honors as a junior. He was also named to the ECAC Weekly All-Star team and the Division I ECAC Honor Roll. In 1977-78, Laycock backboned the Bear team that finished fourth in the ECAC playoffs. His 34-save performance in the first round victory over Clarkson of the ECAC tournament gave Brown its first-ever win at Clarkson. A client manager with the public accounting firm of BDO Ward Mallette, Mike lives with his wife Susie and their two sons, Colin and Aaron, in Barrie, Ontario.
