A four-time First Team All-American selection in squash, Devon Kennedy '99 has been one of the greatest student athletes to come through the Brown squash program. In 1999 she was named to the Ivy League's Silver Anniversary Team as one of the greatest players in Ivy League squash history.
"Devon Kennedy lifted the profile of the Women's squash program at Brown, both on the campus at Brown and throughout the collegiate squash world," said Brown squash coach Stuart leGassick. "Devon's drive and enthusiasm for the game set the standard for her teammates and for Brown squash players who followed her. Unassuming and self-effacing, Devon led quietly by her actions on and off the squash courts and proved a wonderful ambassador for her teammates and Brown."
As a freshman in 1996, Kennedy received the Kate Silver Award, which was presented to the outstanding first-year varsity female athlete of the year at Brown. At the completion of her four-year Brown career, Kennedy earned the Marjorie Brown Smith Award as Brown's outstanding varsity athlete of the year.
A member of Brown's 100 Greatest Athletes of the Past Century, Kennedy competed at the number one position for the Bears in every match she played for four years. The squash team's Most Valuable Player all four years, she finished second in the 1999 CSA National Individual Championship and received the 1999 Rhode Island Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Distinguished Student-Athlete Award.
During her time at Brown, she was also the winner of the prestigious 1999 Betty Richey Award, presented by the Women's Intercollegiate Squash Association, as the outstanding senior collegiate squash player in the nation. Kennedy was also a four-time first team All-Ivy selection.
An Organizational Behavior and Management concentrator at Brown, Kennedy received her M.B.A. from the Kenan School of Business at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She recently returned home to Philadelphia to work at her family business in commercial real estate.
