George "Woody" Grimshaw '47 had the unique distinction of serving as captain of the basketball team for three successive years. An aggressive, driving player who was perpetual motion on the court, Grimshaw had a career total of 1021 points in four varsity seasons, placing him number one on the Brown list. In 1944-45, Grimshaw and Johnny Bach helped lead Brown to a 15-4 record and the New England championship. The 6-1 native of England played professional basketball with the Providence Steamrollers of the NBA. Also an end on the football team, Grimshaw was an honorable mention All-East in 1946. He recently resigned as basketball coach at Tufts after an 18-year career.
