Steven V. Ennis '86
Swimming/Water Polo
Year Inducted:

Steve Ennis was just the swimmer Ed Reed needed to fill several roles. Ennis, a backstroke specialist, also swam distance events in close meets. It was not unusual for Steve to swim the 200 yard and 400 yard individual medleys, scoring points, and scoring in the 200 yard backstroke; and then going on to in the 400 yard freestyle relay and at least take second in the 400 free relay. He holds Brown records in the 200 and 400 yard individual medley, the 100 and 200 yard backstroke and the 400 yard medley relay. In 1984 he was Eastern champion in the 200 and 400 yard individual medley; and he received the Moriarty Award for scoring the most points in the Easterns. In addition to being named All-Ivy, he was also named All-East. Steve Ennis was also an accomplished water polo player. He has numerous All-East and All-American honors. Brown was selected to the NCAA Championships each year that Steve was on Ed Reed’s team. When Steve left the Smith Swimming Center as one of Brown’s all-time swimming greats, he left six school records behind. Steve is married to Sheila Bowman and is working for Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company.
