Donald L. Eccleston '65
Sport: Ice Hockey
Year Inducted: 1993

The late Don Eccleston was one of Coach Jim Fullerton's top defensemen during the early 60's on some of Brown's best hockey teams. Although overshadowed by one of Brown's all-time greats - Bob Gaudreau - Don more than held his own, scoring 11 goals and assisting on 47 others. In the 1964-65 season Don was picked on the second team All-Ivy (probably because Brown had three members on the first team). The 1964-65 Brown team won the Ivy League championship and participated in the NCAA Ice Hockey Championship Final Four at Meehan Auditorium. Don will best be remembered as the "policeman" of the Bear's defense. Don was also a very successful hockey coach; most recently at Pomfret where he also taught history and was Dean of Students. Don's untimely death in September deprived him of the pride of experiencing his formal induction into the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame.
