Tim Donovan ’89, the youngest of eleven children, came to Brown from Pittsburgh. During his four years at Brown, he established himself as one of the finest tennis players to ever compete for Brown in intercollegiate tennis. He was selected All-Ivy and All-ECAC all four years. Twice he was named Ivy and ECAC player-of-the-year, and he was three-time New England Champion. In 1988 Tim was Brown athlete-of-the-year and in 1988-89 he was chosen ECAC sportsman-of-the-year. He had a career record of 48-8. A two-time captain of the Brown tennis team, Tim turned pro upon graduation.

As a pro, Tim toured six continents, playing in 23 countries, competing in the French Open, the U.S. Open and the Australian Open (three of the four Grand Slams in tennis). One of his most difficult challenges in his travels, however, wasn’t on the courts but surviving a run-in with a rhinoceros.

Tim currently resides in Watertown, Massachusetts, and is New England director of player development for the U.S. Tennis Association.
