Claude B. Davidson '19, a brilliant left-handed hitting infielder, was captain-elect of the baseball team his sophomore year but left college to join Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics as a second batsman. He also played with Washington and Cincinnati before retiring in 1921. Davey Davidson founded Boston's Twilight League in 1922 and served as president for four years. He also played a leading role in finally legalizing Sunday baseball in Boston. For many years he coached the Harvard freshman team. In 1925, Davidson organized the New England League and served as president. He reorganized the league after World War II and stayed on as president until 1951.
