Joseph H. Conzelman '12
Year Inducted: 1971
Joseph H. Conzelman '12, a lean six-footer, had speed to burn when he led the Bruins to a series of successful seasons. Throwing with an overhand motion, Conzelman mixed his fast ball with a sharp drop to keep the batters off stride. He would never get rattled when the going got tough. He'd just stand on the mound and grin. Prof. Wally Snell '13, his receiver, tells of the day Brown led Columbia, 2-1, in the ninth. Conzelman walked the first three batters and then proceeded to strike out the side on 11 pitches. The Bruin right-hander hurled three years in the majors, 1913-15, with Pittsburgh and had a 7-8 record and a good 2.92 ERA.
