Elizabeth Z. Chace ’59 has been an active supporter of women’s athletics at Brown for several years. On March 14, 1997, it was announced that Chace and her husband, Malcolm G. Chace III, had endowed the women’s basketball head coaching position as a gift to the university. The Brown women’s basketball head coaching position is only the second such position in the country to be completely endowed.
Chace is also the founder of the Women’s Athletics Golf Invitational, which has raised money for Brown women’s athletics over the last ten years.
Chace was elected as a member of the Brown Board of Fellows in 1999, having previously served on the Board of Trustees at Brown since 1995. She is a member of Brown's Class of 1959 and received a Bachelor of Philosophy honoris causa in 1996. Chace also received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maine in 1969.
Ms. Chace is a co-founder of Residential Properties Ltd., a statewide real estate firm in Rhode Island. She is also Director of The Rhode Island Foundation, the nation's 15th largest community organization. Ms. Chace is a member of the Board of Trinity Repertory Theatre and chair of its campaign. She is also a member of the Rhode Island Real Estate Commission, the Providence Downcity Design Review Commission, and the Providence Country Day School board. She is the former President of the John Hope Settlement House, and is currently Vice-President of the Brown Sports Foundation.
