Peter A. Campbell is currently an information technologist in Brussels. While at Brown he established himself as one of the finest freestyle swimmers in New England. During his freshman year he set New England records in the 500, 1000 and 1650-yard freestyle events. His time in the 1650 was almost a minute faster than the second-place finisher. He also qualified for the NCAA Championships at Long Beach, CA.
Sophomore year saw Peter capture the New England Championships in the 500 and 1650-yard freestyle events, and he was also a member of the winning and record setting 800-yard freestyle relay team. Brown won the New England Championship that year, with a record high point total.
During Peter’s junior year, Brown competed in the Eastern Seaboard Intercollegiate Swimming League which began a new era of competitive adjustment. Peter placed 13th in the 1650-yard freestyle and 19th in the 500-yard freestyle events.
As a senior, while placing 9th in 1650-yard freestyle and 17th in the 500-yard freestyle, he set new varsity records. As a senior Peter received the Thomas Temple Award for his “qualities of dedication, personal self-improvement and sportsmanship.”
