Ed Barry ’52…enthusiastic…loyal…eternally optimistic…always willing, ready to get involved and lend a hand to anything pertaining to Brown athletics and Brown University. Over the years Ed has remained active and supportive of Brown athletics. Some of his accomplishments are: member of Brown Hall of Fame Committee for 19 years, served two terms as chairman, produced the Brown Bear logo (still in use today), designed 1976 Ivy Championship watches and commemorative posters, edited and produced the Brown Hall of Fame program, and served as dinner chairman for many years. He also found time to counsel athletes and coaches on alcohol and drug abuse; read papers for Barrett Hazeltine; and helped students with career counseling. He was the 1986 recipient of the Sports Foundation (Jay Barry ’50) Award. A former director of the Brown Club of Rhode Island, he also co-chaired the commencement pops concert. Ed has also served as president of his class and chaired class reunions on three occasions.

As manager of support services for Brown athletics, he oversaw the reconstruction of Brown Stadium and construction of the Pizzitola Center. He edited and produced football, hockey and basketball programs for several years.

Ed and his wife, Alice, reside in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Ed’s daughter, Kathleen ’73, and her husband, John Magladery ’73, live in Maryland. Son Ted and granddaughter, Megan, live in Rhode Island (South County), while daughter Julie resides in San Francisco and loves it!!
