NCAA RECRUITING

Recruiting is any solicitation of a prospective student or legal guardian(s) by an institutional staff member or by a representative of the institution's athletics interests for the purpose informing the prospective student about Brown University, its athletics program and participation in intercollegiate athletics at Brown University.

In sports other than men's basketball and men's ice hockey, a member institution may not provide recruiting materials to a prospective student-athlete until September 1 at the beginning of the prospective student-athlete's junior year in high school. In men's basketball and men's ice hockey, an institution may not provide recruiting materials to a prospective student-athlete until June 15 at the conclusion of the prospective student-athlete's sophomore year in high school.

All Division I institutions must abide by uniform NCAA recruiting guidelines. For more information on the recruiting process and rules, see the recruiting section of the Guide to the College Bound Student Athlete.

Additional information about the recruiting time periods can be found on the NCAA Website under Recruiting Calendars.

Also, see a June 2006 communication to students interested in Ivy League intercollegiate athletics.

The following chart compares recruiting among Divison I sports, and the permissible activities that coaches may engage in throughout a prospect' s (prospective student-athletes) high school career.
