Steve Silverthorn joined the Brown men’s hockey staff as a Goalie Consultant in November of 2013. Silverthorn comes to Brown following a successful professional playing career, having competed in the AHL, ECHL, CHL and internationally.
Silverthorn spent the 2012-13 season with the Allen Americans of the CHL, where he complied a 17-7-3 record as the primary goaltender and helped the team to a regular season championship.
A graduate of Colgate University, Silverthorn was a four-year member of the Raiders’ hockey team, where he was a two-time All-ECAC Honorable Mention selection. A three-time team Defensive Player of the Year award winner, Silverthorn competed in 100 career contests and posted a 2.22 goals-against average. He recorded eight career shutouts and compiled a save percentage of .914.
Following his collegiate career, Silverthorn spent two seasons with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL, leading the team to the 2007 Kelly Cup title. The team Most Valuable Player for the 2006-07 season, Silverthorn was named Kelly Cup Playoffs MVP after posting a 16-6 record, setting ECHL playoff records for wins (16) and minutes played (1,388) in a single postseason.
After Idaho, Silverthorn played internationally in Germany, splitting time between Toelzer and Schwenninger. He was named the 2008-09 Goaltender of the Year with Toelzer and helped Schwenninger to the regular season championship. From there, he played one season with the Texas Brahmas of the CHL, before returning to Germany with Dresdner Eislowen for the remainder of the 2011-12 campaign.
A native of Owen Sound, Ontario, Silverthorn graduated from Colgate in 2005 with a B.A. in political science.
