Kevin Nuss joined the Brown men’s soccer coaching staff in August of 2013. Nuss comes to Brown after an incredibly successful stint with the Ocean City Nor’Easters of the Premier Development League (PDL) in the United Soccer Leagues. In the first season, Nuss helped the Nor’Easters finish the season with a record of 13-3 and the club’s first Eastern Conference Championship.
In 2013, the Nor’Easters repeated as Eastern Conference Champions, finishing 11-2-1. The Nor’Easters competed in the 2013 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, beating the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USLPro) 1-0, and losing in stoppage time, 2-1, against the Philadelphia Union (MLS). The team advanced all the way to the USL PDL National Semifinal, where they lost, 1-0, to eventual champion Austin Aztex.
Before joining the Nor’easters, Nuss served as an assistant coach at Saint Joseph’s University for a single season in 2011. While at Saint Joseph’s, Nuss worked with the goalkeepers, while heading the scouting and recruiting efforts.
Prior to SJU, Nuss served as an assistant coach to Tim Oswald at Rutgers University-Camden for three years where he helped them reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history (2008). He also saw the Scarlet Raptors set a program record for wins (16), post 11 shutouts and notch the fourth-best goals against average in school history (0.96). While with the Scarlet Raptors, Nuss helped attract some of the top talent in NCAA DIII to Camden, New Jersey; which included 2 All-Americans, 2 Academic All-Americans, ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, ECAC Rookie of the Year, 3 ECAC Metro Region selections, 2x NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year, NJAC Rookie of the Year & 15 All-NJAC selections.
In addition to his positions at the collegiate and semi-professional level, Nuss has worked in youth soccer development. He served as the Director of Player Development at Cherry Hill FC, after completing a two-year tenure in the same position at Highland Youth Soccer Club.
He completed his own collegiate career in 2007 as the starting goalkeeper at Rowan University, after a two-year stint as the starting goalkeeper at William Paterson University. He began his collegiate career at Camden County College in 2003. He was honored as an Adidas/NSCAA First Team Regional All-American and was named as the First Team goalkeeper in both Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference.
In addition to his collegiate career, Nuss trained and played with a pair of USL Player Development League teams as a member of the Delaware Dynasty and the Ocean City Barons.
